Featured Local Bike Programs

WOBO is committed to bringing visibility to amazing groups that make bicycling in Oakland joyful and accessible. This year, we feature four super local groups that exemplify this spirit.

The Bike Fix-81st Ave Library

The Bike Fix is a community bike repair program for most minor and intermediate bike repair needs. It is Free and all are welcome. The Bike Fix launched as a library program in 2014, and continues every Friday from 2:30-5pm today. In the last 10 years, we’ve fixed thousands of flats and bike repairs and have given away hundreds of bikes.

Bay Area Bike Rescue

Bay Area Bike Rescue

Bike Rescue is an organization fighting the waste of bicycles in the bay area by receiving bicycles that would have otherwise gone in the trash or landfill and giving them a second chance. We provide bicycles to low income families, libraries, churches, recreation centers, clubs, and every community that you can imagine in need.

Scraper Bike Team

The Original Scraper Bike Team

The Scraper Bike Team hosts bike clinics at our community Bike Shop in East Oakland at Arroyo Park. We also host afterschool enrichment programs for students at 3 elementary schools where we teach them Bike Safety, Bike Mechanics & Bike Customization. The Scraper Bike Team offers services at 3 elementary schools focusing on 4th and 5th-grade students in Deep East Oakland. We also offer programs at Arroyo Park that positively impact the surrounding community.

Spokeland

Spokeland

We are a diverse collective of local East Bayers as well as new and established Oaklanders of all backgrounds. We offer a collaborative environment where learning bicycle mechanics is fun and welcoming with a representative core of volunteers and staff who reflect the many cultures of Oakland. We offer affordable bicycle parts and refurbished bikes, as well as accessories, workshops, on site tool rental and one-on-one mechanical assistance. As a community collective we seek community involvement, investment and feedback to maintain this shared utility.
