GOAL: Promote Street Calming and Reform of Inequitable Traffic Enforcement Policies in Oakland By Supporting The City Of Oakland’s “Safe Oakland Streets” initiative.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_column_text]In 2021 the City Of Oakland launched Safe Oakland Streets (SOS), a citywide initiative to  prevent serious and fatal traffic crashes and eliminate crash inequities on Oakland’s streets. The number of fatalities and injuries on Oakland streets has increased dramatically over the last few years, resulting in approximately two life-changing or life-ending traffic crashes each week (2021 figures). SOS is a far-reaching effort to implement the most effective and equitable strategies for making Oakland a lower-risk place for everyone using its streets, including building partnerships with the community.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Our Work”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]WOBO is working closely with the City of Oakland in support of SOS’s goals:

• Prevent severe and fatal crashes and related disparities impacting Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income populations;
• Eliminate severe and fatal injury inequities including racial disparities impacting BIPOC communities that exist today in Oakland; and
• Inform effective and equitable safety strategies that prevent injury and injury inequities, and do not have adverse equity impacts on BIPOC communities, seniors, people with disabilities and low-income populations
